Scariest Movie of All Time

I remember watching Insidious when I was browsing channels with my cousins when I was fourteen years old. I was never a fan of jump scares and not being to sleep at night because of a film. But I watch them because of the story. Insidious is not like any other film because of its story. It is a story of Sleep Paralysis. A family moved into a big new house with a red door in the attic. One the kids, Dalton, went up to the attic and the ladder broke and made him fell and he got into a coma. They didn’t know it yet, but Dalton had an “ability” to make his spirit leave his body and go to a place they call the “Further.” When he fell, he got stuck in the Further. And now spirits and ghosts wants to take his body.

What stuck with me before, and now, is the Demon with the red face. I remember hating his part of the movie. It was not even a jump scare when we first saw him, so I was not expecting him. But what stuck to me is the scene where the dad went to the Further to save his son. The dad, Josh, when he was little, he was also like Dalton. He had a black bride follow him around, but his mom hired Elise to help them get rid of it. And they did. But he never remembered. His mom only told him because the same thing was happening to his son. But when we went to the Further, he saw his son chained up while the red-faced demon was sharpening his claws while listening to “Tip-Toe Through the Tulips.” That was the most disturbing and scariest scene I have ever watched. I still could not listen to that song without having chills all over my body. It is this high-pitched voice that is not what a demon should be listening to. That’s probably why it was so disturbing.

I thought watching it again now, I would be able to go through it, but I didn’t. I had to pause the movie because that’s how scared I was. I had to watch this show by myself because no one was available to watch it with me. And I thought I would be able to. But I was mistaken. It gave me the same feeling I had when I watched this when I was fourteen years old.

I have read mixed reviews about the movie. It’s either you really love it, or you really hate it. Most of the great reviews has said that this was the scariest movie that they have watched. Another review said that is was, “slow, predictable, with terrible dialogue and mediocre effects.” It could not be more wrong. I disagree with everything that review has said. I was always on the lookout while I was watching the movie and the effects still scared me as a 22-year old woman. Even the posters they used was scary. Especially with the black bride. That will always haunt me. I have forgotten what she looked like but looking at the poster and watching the film again made me realize how disturbing she looked.

The first time I watched this movie, I never really appreciated the story of it because I was stuck with the scaring. But watching the movie again, the story stood out for me. Astral projection, also known as sleep paralysis, is something that anyone could do. Which made the story scarier. It was not as big when the movie first premiered but throughout the years, it became more known that it could happen.

I love the Insidious collection because it has the perfect amount of scare and wonder. I saw wonder because like you said, this can happen to anyone. When I get very, very tired I can hallucinate and I know this now. I hallucinate large spiders. Creepy, trust me I know. I watched a movie when I was about 10 years old called, “Eight Legged Freaks” and this movie scarred me for life. I am so terrified of spiders I can’t even take a shower with a tiny spider in the ceiling corner. I can’t kill spiders because I’m afraid they’ll jump. I still till this day cannot watch that movie because I will think that there is a spider crawling on me all day. Great review!

This movie seems like it would be a very good but freighting movie. I just got into the scary movie genre so I haven’t seen any scary movies past 2015 sadly. I think the realism in this movie would be quite the thrill. I like how you consistently used examples through the entire post.

I agree with you on not being a fan of jump scare movies, I love scary movies especially the true stories but when they scare you out of no where is were it gets me to not being able to sleep. I had always liked seeing the Insidious movies because of the story as well and how sleep paralysis can happen to anyone. I personally had sleep paralysis happen to me once when i was pregnant and if i can say i was terrified but i have a friend who’s had it too and hers was way worse than mine and I just hope It never happens again. Great Post i liked how you added names and I like the pictures you had especially of the red face demon. Keep up the great work!

    Hello Francesa,
Great movie choice! I will say this is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen. I like that it has some jump out scare parts but at the same time the story is really good! I watched it a few times. The first time I was already on edge from the reviews I had heard about it so I covered my eyes for some parts. The other times I watched it I had forgotten some of the scary parts. It is really creepy when his dad goes to find him. I really like how his mom knew that something had followed him as a child (the dad) and saw it in the photographs. I am not sure however if this is the scariest movie of all time but definitely in the top 10!

Hi Francesa! I tend to shy away from scary movies, but I was so curious about your cover photo! That was QUITE an imposing photo, so I knew I had to read more. My picture and intro wasn’t quite so drawing, so I’ll definitely keep that in mind for our future posts. I also can’t stand jump scares, which is why I avoid pretty much every movie not rated PG… only partly kidding 🙂 Considering that I didn’t know anything about the film to start, I definitely learned a lot, and while I may not be jumping to watch it, I still am slightly more inclined if I run into it the same way you do did while flipping through channels. Great work!

    Hey Francesa,
You had an amazing title! When I saw the title, I had to click on it to see what movie was the scariest you’ve ever seen in your life. Since I don’t like scary movies and pretty much stay clear, I was excited to read about a scary movie so I don’t actually have to watch it for myself. You did a great job on your blog post and I really enjoy the images you included.
    Best Regards,
    -Blake
