History vs. Science Fiction

This essays for this week compares two films that I enjoy. The first film is Forrest Gump. I have chosen that film because this film follows me on a journey for someone who has a disability and what the future has in store both life and relationships. This film I have seen two years ago and I had only seen it once before seeing it again. The second film is Avatar. I have chosen that film because this happened to be one of my favorite films that I enjoyed. the film was good science fiction movie and enjoy the machinery used in the film. What interested me about Forrest Gump seemed very familiar from my past and possible future. Avatar interested me by the science fiction and seeing the film so many times that I remember the scenes for watching it. My experiences were very amazing by the fact that I was on another planet while watching Avatar. my experiences have been amazing when a story was told in Forrest Gump when he shared his experiences from the past and shares it with others. I would do something like that if I have remembered everything I have done. I do say that Forrest is famous.

Tom Hanks Paid for the Running Scene to Be in 'Forrest Gump' Himself

Forrest Gump is a traditional southern movie. The lead actor Tom Hanks portrays an individual with learning disabilities and the capacity for deep love/empathy. The storyline tells of struggles in a traditional school system, but Forrest has skills that are recognized beyond academics. He was discovered at a football game with exceptional running skills. The recruiters offered him a college education to play football. Then came The Vietnam War, and he was drafted. Once again, he was able to show skills in gun assembly that surprised his drill sergeant. Forrest made a deep friendship with Bubba. Forrest received many awards and recognitions at the white house.  Then he runs, and it all ends when he has a child.

Avatar was a science fiction film. It was a movie about greed, spirituality, and science. The characters had two sides. One side had the militiary like people who involve uses of force and the science people wanted to find out what made Pandora so special. They developed a piece of machinery that would transport an human into an Avatar. The hope was to become familiar with the Avatars to move them away from the highly sought mineral. Throughout the adventure, there was love and loss and outer worldly experience. Some would say that the move had a political ideals and promoted preservation of the amazon forest. It transported me to another world with high energy, beautiful lights, and joyous people. Some of the large animals on Pandora were very scary. War broke out because they wanted to destroy the home of the Avatars to find the mineral. Jake rode the dragon into the tribe to explain about the war to come. Avatars were gathered from all over the planet of Pandora to fight against the humans coming to destroy their world. In the end, the Avatars won the battle and Jake was taken from human form to the Avatar body.

Taking a brief break from comparing, here are events that happened in the same year the two films came out. The most amazing transportation effort occurred in May of that year. “As the world’s longest undersea tunnel, the Chunnel runs under water for 23 miles, with an average depth of 150 feet below the seabed. Each day, about 30,000 people, 6,000 cars and 3,500 trucks journey through the Chunnel on passenger, shuttle and freight trains” (History). A very big economic event. As a train main this is a good event chosen. A special task was going out of the global community. “STS-64 marked first flight of Lidar In-space Technology Experiment (LITE) and first untethered U.S. extravehicular activity (EVA) in 10 years” (NASA). A very big technological event. A scary thing occurred with the shipping industry and one of the owners. “Maersk Alabama hijacking, incident involving the seizure of a U.S.-flagged cargo ship by four Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean on April 8, 2009” (Britannica). A scary cultural event. Now back to comparing.

Critical resources chosen for Forrest Gump are looking back at the film itself and how it is compared to enjoyable to not as much. Now for Avatar with it being introduced and how it involved in politics. Those resources interested me the most by looking back and being introduced to the films and how we can argue if the film was good to watch or not at all. The differences seen in the sources are with the use of education, and the use of how the film can be good and bad when watching it.” A sweet movie featuring one of the most beloved movie stars of all time. It’s a slick and inviting celebration of the human spirit through the lens of a wide-eyed innocent, and utilizes technology to brilliant ends” (Kohn). “A film surrounded by records of various kinds: the biggest budget film ever made; the highest box office gross of all time” (Brown & Ng). The character has shown saving people and having afforded a better life (Kohn). The film is using modern equipment and showing different aspects (Brown & Ng). The writers argue that the films say that there are different when first seen them and people looking at them and speaking their opinions. I do agree and disagree with most of the information being presented in the resources. The writers point should be better produced. I would like a better view of the context with most of the bad parts removed.

The critics and the public were fraud about the films at first, then they got better about the films later on. Both filmmakers did not expect that the films had some actors, scenes, and props were unusual at first. The evidence I have found were the poster, review, and the original trailers for these two films. my connections to both the films and the critical sources would be very different for me at first because ether are opinions to be spoken of. The evidence sheds light on those who would be interested in seeing the film and how the film was going to be when they see it for the first time. I would say that the technological styles and what the film props needed to be used could be different for what the film was going to be like while the styles used can be helpful for the environment. Both films were conventional because the films were made based on a blockbuster for one of them, and the other was from a famous Hollywood actor The money used in the films would be made by props, styles, effects, sounds and other thing the filmmakers needed to make the films be more better produced. The styles used in the films have changed by using running, dancing, problem solving, and  futuristic ideas. The films would have a big impact on the society and the use of politics by using one of the films for going to another planet and doing research and problem solving. The technology changes by the visuals and effects used for the films. I would say that these would answer the issues being presented. The films would show great talents around the globe.

Both movies shared some common threads and mostly similar content that I have seen. War, greed, love and friendship were viewed on both movies.  how about ending it with a beautiful wedding.

    Hello Steele,
We bought wrote about Avatar and had a lot of similarities on what we wrote about, especially the special effects. I learned about the historical events on your post that I never knew about before. Your work talked about the technology used in films which is part of the big course issues.

    Hey Steele,
Something that we both can agree on is that both of these films are very immersive for different reasons; Avatar lets you journey through an alien planet while Forrest Gump follows the story of one man who took part in many historical US events. Forrest Gump is a film that just inspires every emotion along with its twist and turns. I also talked about how Avatar’s technology and digital effects were groundbreaking and helped inspire a new generation of films.

    Hello Steele!
Avatar and Forrest Gump are two films that are different, but similar as well. The two main characters both have disabilities, and it’s familiar. Forrest has an intellectual disability, and Jake has a physical disability. Both are stories with an amazing outcome. I feel that it’s very well told by you. Which is something that is very pertinent to story telling.
