How has the Film Industry Changed? The Technology and Socially.

Films have been around for a very long time. To answer the big question about how the film industry has changed from 1965 till now will be based on the change in the technology of films and in the industry of filming, and how social aspects have changed. The change began when they used black and white films back in the day to transition to colored films. The the change was all the way to modern day where they use modern technology in modern days in modern movies made to this day including the social aspects. These films will include A Hard Day’s Night, Blazing Saddles, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, and Avatar. By discussing those films in pieces and what they are about, so that can come into detail that kind of technology did they use to change the way films were made and how social aspects have changed.

The film industry changes beginning with cultural film A Hard Day’s Night. The movie was filmed in England. The film was shown on American television in 1967 in color. This movie that I selected to view is one that I have definitely seen clips of before involving one of my favorite music bands. This film interested me when I viewed a clip of the film about a decade ago on television. What caught my attention was a mix of one of my favorite music band and combination of train adventures. It caused me to sing along from hearing the music within the past. Even though the music of The Beatles was long before I was born. “Many critics attended the movie and prepared to condescend, but the movie could not be dismissed: It was so joyous and original that even the early reviews acknowledged it as something special” (Elbert).

The movie was made and produced in Britain. Every Beatles actor was from England and they got together and formed the band in 1960. Form a cultural standpoint, the humor from a British standpoint is quite different from the American comedians. The teenage following of mostly teenage girls, lent the opportunity to advertise to a large segment across Britain and the United States. These young fans drove brand items related to this pop culture. It was important to include a senior family member known as grandfather to establish that The Beatles were a caring family group. One day I would hope to see the film modernized with modern technology. Black and white when I have seen it and old style sounds.

Another film that would take the pick is a western film Blazing Saddles. The storyline has messages of racism, sexuality, servitude and status. Many of the conversations would be unacceptable in the twenty-first century. Popular actors and actresses were chosen to generate and audience. Some phrases in the film are still used today. It was clear that a black sheriff was to shock the whole town. The bet Amongst themselves he wouldn’t survive a day. With wit and balance, sometimes out of place historically such as the toll booth and needing to have dimes-that the storyline was difficult to follow it jumped from past, to present, and even times to the future. The story had a beginning, middle, and an ending. The scenes often shared the use of drugs, women, and drinking. Cowboys surrounding the campsite eating beans and passing gas was the “first” in the film studios. A real rude display of mannerless men, but true behavior for a cowboy of the old west. the film is in color and having sound upgraded.

The opinionated sources can differ in so many ways as looked at it by the quotes and discussing if they agreed to it or not. “Blazing Saddles was a huge box-office hit and remains the highest-grossing Western of all time, though critical reviews were mixed when it first opened theatrically” (Soares). “Brooks has never been known for his subtlety, and Blazing Saddles is no exception” (Faulx). The director has been able to bing in different people including who are out of the ordinary. Others believe that the film is laughable (Soares). The film shares its own people and their cultures. It has been the greatest film ever seen and did a good job (Faulx). the quotes and articles have both agreeable and disagreeable points. One of the Points should be more specific.

The next film to include with the technological and social aspects is the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. The film was an action packed movie set in a vintage era. The story is about a lost stone to an ancient Indian tribe. Within the tribe, the children had been stolen and put into slavery at the castle. It is an adventure story of good and evil. At the castle, after being lost in the catacombs, Dr. Jones, the American women, and the young sidekick discover a ritual sacrifice chamber. Within the chamber are three stones that cannot be activated until the three stones are present. After the ceremony was finished, Indiana Jones repelled down to the chamber with his whip to take the three stones. Once there he heard children screaming and discovered the sad circumstances of them mining for a particular stone. The other scene that stood out to me was the arrival of the British army to shoot the evil army, and rescue Dr. Jones, The American woman, and the sidekick. One film scene was at the dinner table at the palace that served live snakes, eyeball soup, and frozen monkey brains for dessert. That struck me as an odd scene. I would say is that they had more sounds added to the film.

One of the most amazing sporting events have occurred in the southwest U.S. “The Los Angeles Games were the 20th occurrence of the modern Olympic Games” (Britannica). A very amazing global event. In an Indiana Jones action film, I really had to pay attention, otherwise I would have missed something important. These action films make me sit up in my chair and had mixed feelings thorough the viewing. My favorite scene in the movie was when the children arrived back at the village and reunited with their parents. Dr. Jones returned the stone to the head priest of the village and kissed the American woman while the sidekick had the elephant spray water on them. Everyone smiled at the happy ending.

Coming in to the most technological film of all which is a sci-fi film Avatar. Avatar was a science fiction film. It was a movie about greed, spirituality, and science. The characters had two sides. One side had the military like people who involve uses of force and the science people wanted to find out what made Pandora so special. They developed a piece of machinery that would transport an human into an Avatar. The hope was to become familiar with the Avatars to move them away from the highly sought mineral. Throughout the adventure, there was love and loss and outer worldly experience. Some would say that the move had a political ideals and promoted preservation of the amazon forest. It transported me to another world with high energy, beautiful lights, and joyous people. Some of the large animals on Pandora were very scary. War broke out because they wanted to destroy the home of the Avatars to find the mineral. Jake rode the dragon into the tribe to explain about the war to come.

Avatars were gathered from all over the planet of Pandora to fight against the humans coming to destroy their world. In the end, the Avatars won the battle and Jake was taken from human form to the Avatar body. The film used all sorts of modern technology including the animation used by a computer and some actors. The technology changes by the visuals and effects used for the films. I would say that these would answer the issues being presented. The film would show great talents around the globe. A scary thing occurred with the shipping industry and one of the owners. “Maersk Alabama hijacking, incident involving the seizure of a U.S.-flagged cargo ship by four Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean on April 8, 2009” (Britannica). A scary cultural event. “A film surrounded by records of various kinds: the biggest budget film ever made; the highest box office gross of all time” (Brown & Ng). The character has shown saving people and having afforded a better life (Kohn). The film is using modern equipment and showing different aspects (Brown & Ng).

With that, yes, films have changed since 1965 with all of those going from old school used in filming in A Hard Day’s Night all the way to the most technological advanced in modern films is Avatar. Another way to sat that with the social aspects used in the film Blazing Saddles uses so many different people and what types of behaviors that were used in the film and probably other films as well. Could there be more changes in the film industry after the present day and the recent history that has been shown about films? Will just find out.
