The Temple of Doom Experience

The film chosen this week is Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I have chosen it is because I have seen this film so many times in my life and started seeing it 14 years ago. The textbook mentions that the film has made special things that is part of a blockbuster. I found about the film being part of someone who watched the film saga for years and I still do today. The film was set in Pankot, India. The opening scene is an Asian nightclub with an American showgirl. They dance a routine and all of a sudden  Indiana Jones appears in his tuxedo. He takes a place at the table of what appears to be a high ranking diplomat surrounded by either side with his sons. Dr. Jones a famous archeologist demands that this diplomat turned over the diamond. A fight ensued and the diamond went flying, but worst of all for Dr. Jones, is he drank a deadly cocktail. The diplomat had the antidote. They head off to the airport with a chase, and this is what happens after a bit of the flight.

The film was an action packed movie set in a vintage era. The story is about a lost stone to an ancient Indian tribe. Within the tribe, the children had been stolen and put into slavery at the castle. It is an adventure story of good and evil. At the castle, after being lost in the catacombs, Dr. Jones, the American women, and the young sidekick discover a ritual sacrifice chamber. Within the chamber are three stones that cannot be activated until the three stones are present. After the ceremony was finished, Indiana Jones repelled down to the chamber with his whip to take the three stones. Once there he heard children screaming and discovered the sad circumstances of them mining for a particular stone. The other scene that stood out to me was the arrival of the British army to shoot the evil army, and rescue Dr. Jones, The American woman, and the sidekick. One film scene was at the dinner table at the palace that served live snakes, eyeball soup, and frozen monkey brains for dessert. That struck me as an odd scene.

Because the film was set in India, a landmark suffered a lot of danger and even a conflict. “Indira Gandhi, the then Prime Minister of India, ordered the military operation to remove Sikh militants who were accumulating weapons in the Harmandir Sahib Complex Golden Temple” (India today). A dramatic political event. But to change things up to a better note. One of the most amazing sporting events have occurred in the southwest U.S. “The Los Angeles Games were the 20th occurrence of the modern Olympic Games” (Britannica). A very amazing global event.

The resources explain the similarity and the differences about the film. “From its very beginning, it is apparent that Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is a film made by people who know very little about the culture they are depicting” (Maeve).”That alone suggests Temple of Doom is not in fact the failure it was long considered to be. That’s not the same thing as being a success but it’s something” (Starnes). Maeve argues that the film has talked about different things about the film. Various authors and me as well can agree and disagree about the sources that are used.

A sequel of a popular film that made others edging to see another film of that series come out. the film was made so people can enjoy another film and have similar things occur. The film nearly has been received as expected, but there were some things that didn’t go well here and there. the critics say that the film was both of those things. There were some conflicts here and there. The filmmakers didn’t expect that most of the props used would be similar from the first fo the film and some that differ for something never seen. Historical evidence shows that the sequel was coming and people should come out and see the film and had some thing familiar to those on the first ever film. The cultural aspects would be the gatherings and the costumes used. The money would be used for production and equipment to be used while on set. The issues present what happens in real life and real time events that have occurred and what happened before the production. The technology used is the different effects and sounds used in the film to make them more realistic. The historical documents can help with how the film should be better produced. In an Indiana Jones action film, I really had to pay attention, otherwise I would have missed something important. These action films make me sit up in my chair and had mixed feelings thorough the viewing. My favorite scene in the movie was when the children arrived back at the village and reunited with their parents. Dr. Jones returned the stone to the head priest of the village and kissed the American woman while the sidekick had the elephant spray water on them. Everyone smiled at the happy ending. Another happy ending is viewing of the original trailer.

Hey Steele, something our films had in common is the star actor, Harrison Ford, who was playing very many influential roles around this time. I don’t remember the movie very well, but the scene that I can remember most clearly is when they’re served monkey brains. Once again, I like your works cited section.

    Hello Steele,
I agree that Indiana Jones are one of those movies where you watched it in the past and you still continue watching it today as well. George Lucas is really good at making these types of films. I didn’t know that a landmark in India suffered a lot of danger and conflict because of this movie. That’s very interesting to learn. You mentioned that you watched the Indiana Jones saga. Did you have a favorite one in mind?

    Hi Steele!
It’s wonderful that you’re able to keep up with a film for that long! It’s hard for me to watch a film over and over, so that’s impressive. I mean I really have to be into the genre to want to watch it that much. I love the Harry Potter franchise so I’d say I’ve probably seen that movie dozens of times. Anyway, I think it’s weird that some movies have a distinct happy ending. Do you think that some movies should have a bad ending? Let me emphasize that a happy ending can be needed at some points, but some movies can be incredible with a bad ending. By the bad ending, I don’t mean a film with an ending that doesn’t fit the narrative. The type of ending where the hero doesn’t get the girl, like Indiana Jones. A movie that does the “bad ending” really well, is the Marvel franchise. The ending of Infinity War is a really good example (SPOILERS) of not winning at the end. Anyway, it’s a great film! Have a nice day/night!
