Shrek 2001

Original memories of this cinematic masterpiece are partial, however the imagination of the DreamWorks production team allowed key moments of the film to entice my 4 year-old self into the land of Far Far Away. The fascination grew around a Scottish Ogre and a talking Donkey, along with the upbeat tunes that resonate with the 2001 film. Back in 2006, at the forefront of the advancement in technology, it wasn’t as easy to rewind videos as it is in the new age today; therefore, I had to physically go up to the DVD box to replay my favourite moments.

Life was so simple, no worries, no stresses, you could get lost in the imaginary tales that universal brought to you, right to your screen. I watch it now, and interpret it differently- of course, as my brain has matured (hopefully). The world around me has also matured, there are real life problems I face from day to day, which I did not have to encounter fourteen years ago. But the magic is that the movie has remained as it was, it is timeless.

(Archive, 2016) this YouTube video shows the main cast talking about the movie they have starred in. Actors/actresses including Mike Myres, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz- all major Hollywood stars with long careers in the industry. Talking about her character ‘Princess Fiona’ Cameron Diaz says, “this character, this person who didn’t look anything like me, but shared the same gestures and voice”. In my opinion, this is why the movie works so well; it is important for the actor to understand their character, it makes the script come to life, which portrays on the screen to the viewers.

Personally, I agree with nateeaton-91067 15 August 2020 who wrote: “Love it” 10/10. ‘I love it, I will simp for Shrek 24/7. This movie is Soo good, everyone should have seen it at least 5 times.’ –

It is a film that will never get old, I will show it to my kids, who will show it to theirs. My only issue is that it is not available on the usual streaming sites such as Netflix or Amazon Prime, and nowadays there is a lack of DVD players as everything is online- so Shrek on DVD is no use!

Admittedly, I have only watched the original trailer once. A perfectly reasonable excuse is that I was not alive at the time it was published, so went straight into watching the full film. However, the (Shrek trailer , 2001) was insightful; it didn’t give away too much yet hints at the wit that the film brings to the screen. It explains the story line but, as expected, does not give away the ending which leaves you wanting to find out what happens to this Ogre and his donkey.

In conclusion, one of my favourite films of all time is well structured, well produced, and well casted. There is nothing about the storyline that I would substitute; I am just unhappy that the franchise had to come to an end, but it was a happy one at that (spoiler alert).

Ahh, Shrek! Most certainly one of my all time favourite childhood movies! The music, the jokes, the visuals were all excellent. My favorite thing to say on a road trip to this day is….”are we here yet” in donkeys famous words. The magic of this movie will most certainly be something which I would also like to share with my children and their children one day!

Shrek is definitely a classic movie that I will show to my kids as well! My favorite scene from Shrek 1 has to be when Shrek and donkey meet. I also find it very funny on how they gave Shrek a Scottish accent. Something I enjoyed about your blog is that you explained every picture/quote that you put it, reading your blog made me realize that I could fix mine in many ways.

I too have many memories of watching Shrek with my brother and sisters in the back of the car on long road trips as a child. Reading your essay reminds me of those days. I agree that is unfortunate that you cannot stream this movie. I did not realize it was unavailable in this format. I admire your way of taking us into your past and future in your essay.

Hi Rachel, I admire the way you talk about your personal feelings and your personal connections with the film. More often than not, it is the immediate feelings evoked by a certain film that makes such a film memorable, meaningful, and hard to forget. And all filmgoers in the world should pay attention to just how much films can impact our lives and influence our decisions and lives. The “good old times” can always be retrieved if we view the film again. I would like to talk more about my feelings in my post next time. Also, your post is quite easy to read, for it is structured is short paragraphs. I like it.
