Bonnie and Clyde, an authentic true to life film. “Years from now it is quite possible that “Bonnie and Clyde” will be the definitive film of the 1960s, showing with sadness, humor and unforgiving detail what one society had come to. ” – “Bonnie and Clyde Movie Review (1967)” by Roger Ebert. It doesn’t get any better than this, Bonnie and Clyde represent what boredom can create. When Bonnie asks Clyde what he would do different if he could he claims, “I would do it all different”. Except his version of different is living in states that he didn’t rob, rather than being an actor or businessman. It’s like we all have a set programming – fate has already made its decision on who we are going to be. Bonnie and Clyde are a good example of young love, it reminds me of high school when the boys become bad to impress the girls. Sneaking out smoking cigarettes and drinking beer. Eventually more and more feed into the fad just like CW Moss.
This movie starts of in Texas, this is where Clyde was released from prison and where Bonnie had moved to. In the beginning of the movie it shows Bonnie in room reluctant to get dressed for work. She is so bored and begins banging on her bed frame, finally she gets up and walks to the window to find Mr. Clyde Barrow checking out her mother’s car. Knowing he was looking to steel it, she goes on a walk into town with him, and tempts him to rob a store – this is where it all begins. The fire in her heart finally ignites, she is not alone, and she is not bored anymore. This movie is real, and in real life when we feel that spark, we do whatever it takes to keep that fire burning.
This movie trailer shows just about everything this movie is about. This film was put together for a total of 2.5 million us dollars and within the year of release it had made 23 million. To this day this film has made 50 million USD in the US and if another 20 million if we expand it to worldwide revenue. The company profited incredibly. This film had a regular budget and actors who were not exactly ‘stars’ at the time. The movie being based on a true story and involving great filming and acting lead to the movie being recognized as it is today.
“Bonnie and Clyde” takes place in Texas and ends in Louisiana and is based off a true story that came to an end in 1934. What the film does not show is how intense the journeys of Bonnie and Clyde truly were. There were several times the Bonnie or Clyde were jailed or even hurt including a massive car accident that severely burned Bonnie Parker. In the times of the original Bonnie and Clyde there was virtually no technology which in turn helped their case. With cars that could start without keys no cell phones and small town with virtually no technology robbing banks was easy.
“Bonnie and Clyde” is a classic love story where they run away together with all the added action from the robbery. Exactly what the public feeds on. “Bonnie and Clyde” is like “Romeo and Juliet”, nothing can stop them from being together and its almost as if the era trying to keep them apart brings them together. When your living in days like this and time starts to slow down with nothing to do, I’d imagine you would do anything once you feel your heart start to beat again. (Serena, 2017) Anything that tries to stop you keeps your heart beating anyone who gets in your way will be stopped or even put to an end. Today we have performances, televisions, computers, sports, music, and so much more. There are things to hold our interest and keep us distracted, “Bonnie and Clyde” did not have the same luxuries and simply refused to live a boring life. When the time came Bonnie Parker didn’t even look back, she ran full throttle away from her ‘life’.
As Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow are on the run they start picking up ‘gang members’ like Mr. CW Moss. Apparently, they Bonnie and Clyde weren’t the only ones who want out of their dull repetitive lives. Bonnie and Clyde find CW at a gas station and after he repairs their car Clyde and Bonnie make what they do sound challenging and enticing like salesmen for crime. CW accepts the challenge and proves his loyalty beginning with the gas station he works out, tossing them the money to be initiated to the crew. Buck Barrow and his wife Blanche were not as excited to join the gang. Buck and Clyde re-united after Clyde killed for the first-time leading Buck and his wife soon became a part of the gang after becoming discovered with Bonnie and Clyde on their ‘vacation’. Once Buck killed a cop defending his wife and brother there was no going back. Here we have the assembly of the Barrow gang.
Bonnie and Clyde continued to rob banks, eventually Buck and Blanche were killed and Bonnie and Clyde badly injured. Cw drove them around under the radar keeping them alive until reaching his fathers house. He was so proud of being on the run with the “famous” Bonnie and Clyde. It seems like his father was more concerned with the tattoo on his chest then Bonnie and Clyde till he meets with the sheriff. Cw had managed to get out of the deal however Bonnie and Clyde met an unexpected fate, although for these big shot robbers it’s hard to imagine that they wanted to go out any other way.
The End

I did not research enough for this film since I didn’t know they were jailed or even the car accident. I did like how loyal they were. Not just between Bonnie and Clyde but for the whole Burrow gang. They did not leave anyone behind. Except for when Buck’s wife stayed with her husband since he was dying. But is it true to life film though? They were alot that they left out. I enjoyed reading your essay!
Alissa,
I really enjoyed this film and I feel you did in an amazing job in your essay talking about this film! I like how francesa also pointed out is the film completely true to the real life events or did they alter and or leave out some important parts? Great thinking!
Best Regards,
-Blake
