Anyone who loves Sci-Fi like myself, knows Planet of the Apes kick started the Sci-Fi saga. Don’t get me wrong, there was War of the Worlds, The Blob, The Thing, etc. etc. The Planet of the Apes caught a lot of peoples fantasies, like my fathers. My father who grew up in the sixties, and loved Planet of the Apes from the revolutionary costume and make up designing of the masks that created the apes in the film. The French author, Pierre Boulle who created this great masterpiece of a storyline in his novel had it brought to life by Franklin Schaffner. “Author Don Kaye from “Den of Geek” had stated, “Boulle could not have known that his short yet pointed twist on the human condition would lead to one of the most successful science fiction franchises of all time, consisting of nine films (to date), two TV series (one live-action, one animated), comic books, toys, games, merchandise and more. And it all started with his book and the original film, produced and released in 1968. Starring Charlton Heston, Planet of the Apes is regarded to this day as a science fiction classic. It not only played a role in saving it studio, 20th Century Fox, but it broke new ground in film makeup, was one of two releases that year that elevated sci-fi to a new level as a legitimate film genre (the other being 2001: A Space Odyssey) and provided the template for the idea of a movie and its sequels telling a single, large-scale, continuing story instead of a new, unrelated tale with each entry.” I have to agree with various statements of how the film had developed an astonishing crew that had created the iconic “ape face”. This genre of film has produced a lot of sequels of film, that continue to fascinate its followers. I believe that Planet of the Apes, helped create more ideas for other novels and films like the Star Wars franchise, and various others. Planet of the Apes aided the creative ideas of the Sci-Fi community, which brought amazing memories of those who grew up watching Planet of the Apes, Batman, Avengers, Star Trek, and The Twilight Zone. My father brought me up on Planet of the Apes, like how he grew up watching this film and the television series of the film as well. From that interaction of my father raising me watching Planet of the Apes it had showed me the Sci Fi aspect of films, in which I had fallen in love with. The various films I love from I am Legend to Cloverfield or 28 days later, are what I look forward to in the theaters. Don’t get me wrong, I grew up reading Marvel so I am always going to love Iron Man. The most memorable part in the film will always be the saying “Take your stinking paws off me you damn dirty ape!” This quote has always stuck with me and I always love bringing it up out of no where, for those to understand where it came from.
