Critics debate that Voyage to Italy is a film in search of itself. A film that only knows its own conclusion when it appears. Its ending is an end that no one expected and yet its ending feels right. No one expected the film to end the way it did, but it was clearly what Rossellini had wanted.
“Rossellini also had “the novelist Vitalio Brancati on the set during part of the shooting”, but, still, “as far as anyone connected with the production knew, not even an outline existed” Shooting, also, proceeded erratically, with Rossellini simply refusing to shoot on days when he didn’t feel sufficiently inspired to work.”
Voyage to Italy is a film that shows how complicated love can be. Although not many of us expected the ending it had, most of us hoped for that ending. The way the film ends portrays that sometimes no matter how complicated it seems, love can break any barrier. The author tells us at the beginning about how tense and complicated their relationship is. The couple is having talks about getting divorced and they don’t seem to be so happy with each other anymore. The author tries to make the audience believe the couple will eventually break up and go on with their lives, but that wouldn’t be so realistic and the author acknowledges that. The author knows love just doesn’t die that easy and therefore at the end of the movie he brings the couple back together and makes them acknowledge that after all they really do love each other. Although they have tried to hurt each other before they end up finding out that their love is still there.
The couple ends up admitting that they only hurt each other because they want to get each other back, but in reality they can’t keep doing that any longer because they truly love each other. They kiss each other to end the movie and once again love wins.
Why is the couple together even when they are not happy?
That question is answered by the author at the end of the movie and well it is because of love.
There is not much difficulty in answering what the genre of the film Voyage to Italy is. Romance is seen as a form of art and that is what we get in the film, lots of romance.
ART;
-They way the couple fights throughout the whole movie shows how intense their romance is. This shows art because it shows how dark adversity can be and how bright love can be.
-The author also shows us art by showing us all the different aspects of the house and by showing the different lightnings and dark sport in the house.
-The author also shows us art by dressing Katherine in what we could call expensive clothes and their servants in regular work clothes.
The film seems to be a mainstream film because they do not target any particular group. They used Ingrid Bergman, One of the most important actresses of the 20th century, as their main protagonist to attract an audience. The story is clear, engaging, and ends decisively. They try to endorse no strong political or social views. The style mirrors the events of the film. When we notice the style, it is because it amplifies the events or feelings of the story.
