V for Vendetta is a dystopian film following two lovers as they embark on an unexpected romance while simultaneously attempting to dismantle a totalitarian governing body. I saw the film as a young child, and it was both my first taste of a dystopia as well as the concept of anarchy. Human behavior inclines us to resist against a force attempting to strip us of personal power and choice, so millions around the world – my peers included, have some sense of relatability to the film’s core message and appeal. As an adult, I can comprehend that the downfalls of total anarchy and the notion of a vigilante acting against the government are much more complex than when I first saw V for Vendetta. There is an order to society to protect those on the fringes as well as limit those who may be so inclined to typically abuse their power.
